Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America, Inc.
was born on October 6, 1898 at the New England Conservatory in Boston, Massachussetts.
The founding father of Sinfonia is Ossian Everrett Mills. For over a century,
Sinfonians in nearly every field of study and professional endeavor have transformed
the face of music in America.
Sinfonia is a Brotherhood of men bound together for mutual helpfulness. Its
purpose is not only to bring men together as friends, but also to provide
a network of brothers with whom men can commune and renew their zeal —
a support network that helps the individual to meet the challenges that face
him in his daily life. Sinfonians share a love of music that unites them as
brothers with a common interest. The Fraternity teaches men to develop themselves
and their art, not for the sake of art itself, but as a means of enriching
the lives of others. Sinfonia’s collegiate chapters participate in a
broad range of activities emphasizing brotherhood, service, and performance
in music. Chapters take music into the community by singing at hospitals and
homes for the elderly.
We, the Zeta Iota Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America,
Inc., have the vision to be the single most respected and revered organization
on the campus of Howard University. Through a continuous creative commitment
to musical excellence, fraternal tradition, social interaction, and professionalism,
we have already successfully attained significant growth; As an effective
fraternity, our brothers are the epitome of what a BROTHER; a MUSICIAN; and
a MAN should be. It is our goal to express our talents to the student body,
faculty and administration to one day create Harmony amongst all people of
all races, religions and cultures. Music is a part of the lives of millions
and millions of all people. We are the 'Movers' and 'Shakers' of the world
that express 12 different musical notes in multiple ways that will bring accordance
to each man within the near future, FOREVER.
The success that Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia will enjoy tomorrow depends upon fidelity
and vigilance to the vision of our founder and the imagination of collegiate
and alumni chapters.
